CARDBAORD CAMERA
carboard and hot glue
22” x 37” x 15”
2023
Constructed from cardboard and hot glue, this large-scale sculpture was made as a monument to my film camera. The textures are created by ripping, folding, cutting, and bending the cardboard. The shapes mimic that of the original camera with its soft edges, depth, and textures.
This piece foregrounds scale for the viewer. What was once a portable, slick, and pocket-sized device, quickly became monumental and unusable.
How important is scale in our lives? How important is perspective? Cardboard Camera not only talks about scale, but also about perspective. How does our perspective change when we are focused on one thing? How does our perspective affect those around us?
