A Book about the Everyday is a work that includes pages of scanned ephemera such as receipts, tickets, brochures, and stickers. Paired with the photographs are pages that feature full-bleeds of color. Each spread evokes curious connections between image and color, hue and value, subject and affect. The book holds over 50 pages of scanned papers mixed in with images depicting unusual things.
This book is a documentation of the everyday which took place over four months. Our routines can often become boring or banal. The ephemera depict these everyday encounters, whereas the images depict escaping everydayness. This piece challenges viewers to look for the everydayness in their own lives, and ways to seek creative ways to disrupt their own routines.
A Book about the Everyday won first place in the digital media category of the 2024 OPUS competition at Trinity Christian College.
