ink and wash on newsprint paper
18’ x 24’
2024
I began this project with the intent of creating a small series of sketches of my house that my parents were moving out of. I wanted to commemorate the house by drawing it while it was still ours. What started as a small series quickly grew to a large challenge. I tried many angles and techniques as I worked to figure out which created the most pleasant outcome.
The process of this project gave me time to reflect on the house before I had to say goodbye to it. The slow and maticulous process of dipping the bamboo stick into the pool of ink and dragging it across the paper almost five inches until needing to dip it again, gave me unintentional time with my house. Time to reflect and remember the memories made in the living room through the series of windows I draw them. Memories of watching my dad build the steps on the front as i draw line after line. Before the project was completed, the house was no longer ours.
